Green Light, Red Light: The Trust Game We All Play Unknowingly

It’s often said that time is our most valuable asset. I disagree.

All our decisions are based on our trust level for the person, place, or thing. Managing and understanding trust is one of my foundational pillars to living a happy life. When trust deteriorates, relationships crumble with them.

I see it in every aspect of our lives. Let me show you.

Trust in our Daily Life
When we come to an intersection and see a green light, we go!

We trust that the opposing traffic will honor their red light and stop. As we continue driving, we trust everyone will stay in their respective lanes. If they want to change lanes, they will kindly let us know by putting on their blinkers to let others know they are moving lanes.

Wishful thinking, but most do honor this.

Trust in Personal Relationships
I’ve concluded that every person in our life has a Trust Score.

Our mind calculates this based on previous engagements. There are people in our lives who can ask us for $100; we give it to them without worry that they will pay us back. Yet, there are others that you won’t give that same consideration. You might let them borrow that money, but you suspect you won’t get it back.

This person might even be your mom or dad.

Trust in Business
“People do business with people they know, like, and trust.”

All marketing and advertising aim to create a sense of trust in the consumer’s mind. It might be an illusion of trust, but it works. Try watching a movie, reading a book, or picking a restaurant without checking out the reviews.

Why is that? We need to feel that we can trust them with our time and money.

TRUST > TIME
